Last night Dylan Harper scored a career high 22 points last night. His career is only a baker’s dozen of games deep, which makes one think he’s going to shine bright for some time to come.
Harper is a perfect
fit in San Antonio. Fans want Harper to be a part of this team for a long time. When asked how that made Harper feel he replied, “It’s been great. All the DMs you get, all the love you get whether it’s regular day life what ever you’re doing just all around been great. I just love our fans, they show up tremendously.”
The follow up question “So you read your DMs?” yielded, “Yeah, I don’t answer,” as well as a bevy of laughter from the room.
“I’m not going to answer, and you get a screenshot posted on Twitter. I look at them though…but I don’t answer them.”
Harper has a relaxed demeanor. It pairs with his confidence. He’s doesn’t bolster his ego the way a lot of rookies do to get noticed in a stacked, star-studded league. It’s a reflection of the Spurs culture and how at home he feels in San Antonio. The chemistry with the team has evolved to incorporate drafted players as well as free agency acquisitions.
“I think our chemistry is probably one of the reasons we’re so good. I think we are trending in the right direction. I think from the youngest guys and the rookies all the way up to the best we all share a connection, that bond. We all play video games together. We all hang out at each other’s house. On the road we go out to eat dinner. We do things I don’t think a lot of teams do when it comes to connecting. We play cards, board games…just little things like that I think, nobody sees but gives us a little bit of an edge.”
Harper has enjoyed his time both on and off court, and it shows. The Spurs are successful when he is on the floor. Last night, Stephon Castle made his return. De’Aaron Fox, Castle, and Harper shared the court for the first time. But definitely not the last. As they continue on the road, there is more time for games, dinners, and bonding.
Let’s hope the Spurs continue to trend up as they head into the Emirates Cup Quarterfinals. Go Spurs Go!
