The Braves reportedly refused to consider trading Didier Fuentes to the Tigers in a potential package for Tarik Skubal at the trade deadline. While some fans may be disappointed at the lack of prioritization of the immediate term, its not hard to understand the reluctance to trade a 21 year old pitcher who just posted absurd numbers over 73.1 innings in his first full major league season and who possesses bullpen ace and electric starter potential. Nevertheless, this reinforces how high the Braves are
on Fuentes and how much they view him as a part of their future. It will be interesting to see how they approach Didier’s role going into next season after such a successful season out of the bullpen, but the tantalizing potential for a 22 year old Fuentes to take another step up into a starting pitcher with electric stuff, particularly given the question-marks in the Atlanta rotation.
