Liverpool would like to sign RB Leipzig’s Ivorian forward Yan Diomande and have made little secret of that, with the Reds believed to see the 19-year-old rising star as being the best plausibly available target on the market this summer to replace departed legend Mohamed Salah.
They aren’t the only club interested in the young winger, though, as Paris Saint-Germain have also been heavily linked with Diomande. And even without taking PSG into account, there’s the African Cup of Nations-sized small
matter of his transfer fee, which most have assumed would border on exorbitant.
Now, rumour has it that Leipzig have set the price—and exorbitant might fall short of describing it. The German club are said to want at least €120M (£104M) for Diomande. This might be where we note that the Ivorian has played a sum total of 46 senior matches in his career.
He made ten appearances with Laganes in 2024-25 with two goals and an assist before moving to Leipzig last summer, where he played 36 games with 13 goals and ten assists with a goal involvement every 118 minutes. That goal involvement number would be impressive—if it translates to the Premier League.
Still, for all his clear talent and underlying statistics that could see Diomande develop into a world class forward if he can build on them in a more difficult league, there’s no getting around just how short a track record he has for a player who could cost more than a hundred million.
For what it’s worth, rumours over the past week have consistently set out Liverpool and the Premier League as being the destination that Diomande himself would prefer this summer. It’s difficult though to see the Reds pulling the trigger if Leipzig’s asking price doesn’t eventually drop a bit.
