The world of pro wrestling often blends facts with fiction, making what Roman Reigns had to say recently tough to decode.
WWE posted a 30-second clip on Wednesday of Reigns going off after making his return on Raw. Here is what the Tribal Chief had to say:
“Like I said, some things change, but not me. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
“I’m tired of everybody thinking they understand the landscape. I’m tired of everybody thinking they understand the top
of the mountain.
“Only one man understands this altitude. The Tribal Chief. The greatest of all time. They only want what they don’t have. Touch anything and turn it into gold. You understand that? That’s what makes me so damn good.”
Moments earlier, Reigns returned to WWE, helping the Usos beat The Vision’s Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker, the men who put Reigns out of action with (kayfabe) injuries at Clash In Paris. Reigns’ message could be a shot at Seth Rollins’ group, reminding them that it is still his family that runs WWE.
Reigns could also be making a veiled shot at Cody Rhodes. Days before his match against Reed at Clash In Paris, Reigns mentioned Rhodes’ name. Immediately, fans began to boo. Reigns, seemingly surprised, paused then openly noted, “Interesting.”
While Rhodes remains the Undisputed WWE Champion and one of its most popular stars, reactions to WWE’s corporate champion have seemingly cooled a bit. Reigns’ line, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” could be a subtle message to WWE, suggesting they should not have replaced him with Rhodes as the face of the company.
Reigns seemingly bolsters that idea after he said, “Touch anything and turn it into gold. You understand that? That’s what makes me so damn good.”
After saving the Usos, Reigns got in Jey Uso’s face, reminding him to take what’s his. As Jey grows colder and more determined to regain the World Title, WWE seems to be reigniting the Bloodline saga — a storyline that drove ratings and headlined major events for years.
With Reigns back and involved in Jey’s quest to regain his former glory, he’s at least reminding everyone that whether it’s starts like “Main Event” Jey or The Vision’s young upstarts, he’s still the tide that lifts all ships.
As the most preeminent performer in sports entertainment history once stated, “Interesting.”
