We’re less than three weeks out from the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh. The Seattle Seahawks will be waiting for awhile before they’re on the clock, such is life when you pick at 32 because you won the Super Bowl. Regardless of who they pick, it’s inevitable that there will be some strong initial reactions one way or another.
Today’s fan discussion to kick us off on a Monday is about cold takes. Wrong takes. Bad takes. Rancid takes. Opinions you held true at the time but have been proven so incorrect
that you have voices in your head taunting you saying you “don’t know ball.” What are your worst Seahawks draft takes of all time?
Here’s the good news about the bad takes we’re about to share: they cut both ways! Was there a Seahawks draft pick you thought was destined for stardom but turned out to be anything but? Was there a player you weren’t high on but they turned out to be way better than expected?
The responses will likely skew toward the early-round draft picks, which is fine. It’s very hard to have a hot take on a seventh-rounder who’s fighting to make the roster, but that won’t stop Mel Kiper Jr from arguing that Shedeur Sanders is still substantially better than that player.
My memory has gotten hazy with some of the older draft opinions even dating back to when Tim Ruskell was the general manager. What I can recall is supporting the Amara Darboh draft pick in 2017. The Seahawks needed a receiver and if it wasn’t him it was Chris Godwin. Darboh proved me extremely wrong and was the latest in a long line of Michigan wide receivers who have not made any meaningful NFL impact.
I’m curious to know how many fans were disappointed with the Devon Witherspoon selection when Jalen Carter was available. Both are Super Bowl champions and important to their respective defenses, but Spoon wasn’t exactly considered a top need for Seattle compared to a defensive lineman.
And, of course, there’s the 2012 draft. Draft analysts panned it and were made to eat their words real quickly. Did you have similar sentiments at the time, especially with that Bruce Irvin pick?
