Perhaps the best pass rusher in the entire NFL has left the Cincinnati Bengals’ division.
Myles Garrett being traded to the Los Angeles Rams means more for Cincinnati’s QBs than can be stated.
Joe Burrow has had some rough outings against Garrett’s Cleveland Browns.
And Joe Flacco, Burrow’s backup, has seen Garrett as both an opponent and teammate across three teams in the AFC North.
So it should shock no one that, according to Geoff Hobson on Bengals.com, Flacco’s response to Garrett being moved out
of the division for Jared Verse and draft picks was: “Good for us.”
Spoken like a true vet with no fear of saying the truth.
Of course, some of the Bengals’ offensive linemen didn’t want to get ahead of themselves.
“It doesn’t matter,” Orlando Brown Jr. told Hobson. “You still have to go win on Sundays. Congrats to Myles… (Verse) is a young player who is also a great player. Very talented. I have a lot of respect for his game.”
Amarius Mims had a similar sentiment. “It’s the hardest division anywhere, whether it’s Myles Garrett or Jared Verse,” the big right tackle said. “Both great players. Both have been to the Pro Bowl. Verse has been every year he’s been in the league. We came in together. A great player. You’ve got to block both of them at the end of the day.”
While their takes are accurate, the reality is that Garrett is not replaceable. And not having someone who can single-handedly derail Cincinnati’s offense in the division is, without a doubt, good for the Bengals.
