The Kentucky Wildcats picked up their seventh win of the season Saturday night, knocking off the Vanderbilt Commodores at Kroger Field. Unfortunately, they did not leave the field on Saturday fully healthy, as we saw three players go down with injuries.
Starting running back CJ Baxter left after a catch and hit on the sideline. Starting right tackle Malachi Wood and backup cornerback Isaiah McMillian also went down.
Luckily for the Cats, it sounds like it is nothing too serious.
“CJ went out with a
shoulder. Wood was an ankle. McMillian was a calf,” Stein said during his postgame press conference. “We’ll evaluate those guys. I’m not anticipating it’s anything long-term heading into the work week, as I like to call it, to improve and get better.”
For what it’s worth, both Wood and Baxter were called questionable to return when they went out of the game, suggesting that neither injury was thought to be serious.
Baxter has been one of the SEC’s best running backs this season, while Wood has been a solid right tackle in his first year as a full-time starter, allowing just two sacks this season. McMillian has played just 11 defensive snaps over the past three games, but with the cornerback room being so thin, he could quickly get tossed into a starting role if another injury happens at that position.
The bye week could not have come at a better time for this team, as the Wildcats now head into November with four very important games for their postseason hopes. Getting healthy will be key, and it appears these players could be ready to play when the Cats take on Tennessee.
