Tague Davis’ historic season for the Louisville baseball team hit another milestone on Sunday as the sophomore slugger belted his 26th home run of the year, setting a new single season U of L record.
Davis’ 26th bomb moved him past Randy Delph (1974) and Chris Dominguez (2009) on the single season list.
If that wasn’t enough Cardinal baseball history, Lucas Moore also secured his 100th career
stolen base in the ninth inning, becoming the second player in program history and eighth in ACC history to reach the century mark.
Still, there was a larger matter at hand for Louisville, which was looking to win its fourth straight game and sweep an ACC opponent for the first time this season.
Both of those items were secured in the 10th inning, when Jimmy Nugent sent the home crowd into a frenzy with a two-run, walk-off bomb.
Nugent had also homered in the bottom of the 2nd inning.
The news of Davis’ 26th homer quickly traveled to Philadelphia, where his father — former Major Leaguer Ben Davis — reacted the way you’d expect a proud father would.
The Cards wrap up a five-game homestand Tuesday night against Indiana. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Jim Patterson Stadium.
