Based on the comments from Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian over the nearly two weeks since junior left tackle Trevor Goosby suffered a hand injury in the second scrimmage of preseason camp, his availability for Saturday’s season opener against the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus was never in serious question.
Most recently, Sarkisian said on Monday that he expected Goosby to be available for the high-profile matchup.
On Friday, however, Pete Nakos of On3Sports reported that the 6’7, 312-pounder
will be a “game-time decision” on Saturday. “The Longhorns staff may have Goosby wear something to protect his hand against Ohio State. However, the goal is for Goosby to start this weekend,” Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods reported.
Goosby won’t be 100 percent, according to Orangebloods, a potentially ominous sign for Kelvin Banks’ replacement and one of the most important players on the Texas team — after the season-ending injury sustained by redshirt sophomore right tackle Andre Cojoe, the Horns are short on depth at the position and need Goosby healthy and playing at a high level.
