In his personal monthly newspaper, Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller spoke about the upcoming MLS season and what he’s been focused on these last few weeks. In it, he included hope that the World Cup and an influx of new star players has helped MLS raise its profile on the global stage.
“I’m really burning to be on the pitch for 90 minutes regularly and help my lads with everything I’ve got,” wrote Müller. “We have six games in three weeks. The next game is our start in the Leagues Cup, the competition
where MLS clubs face teams from Mexico. We start at home at BC Place next Tuesday. The tournament is squeezed right into the middle of our league schedule. For me, that means a lot of midweek fixtures.“
“The World Cup has definitely fueled enthusiasm for football in Canada and the USA,” he added. “On top of that, the league has gained some prominent new players over the summer. Not just good players, but really cool guys. Antoine Griezmann, Casemiro, and my long-time friend Robert Lewandowski.”
Despite the off-pitch controversy, the World Cup did put a massive spotlight on football in North America. Now, as Thomas Müller plays out the remainder of his career in MLS, he does so in the company of plenty of top level stars.
