While there’s been plenty of discussion about many Lakers players so far this preseason, one player who has not had much discussion about him has been Adou Thiero.
The team’s lone rookie has been limited during the preseason due to injury. Even still, he’s left quite an impression on the team and coaching staff. After practice on Saturday, head coach JJ Redick spoke about Thiero and his “insane” athleticism.
Even while still not being fully cleared, Thiero has been seen in the background of the action throughout the preseason, whether that’s been shooting jumpers after practice or being mentioned by teammates. During a recent podcast for “The Young Man and the Three,“ Reaves mentioned playing pick-up with Thiero, so he’s not doing nothing right now.
However, it doesn’t sound like there’s any more clarity as to when he will be cleared.
In many ways, Thiero’s injury has highlighted all the frustrating aspects of the Lakers and their communication of injuries. At first, it was reported around Summer League that Thiero was expected to be back for training camp, which did not happen.
Then, we learned in passing that he had a previously undisclosed surgery, presumably when he was at Arkansas. And now, we still wait to learn when he’s going to be cleared.
All of it is frustrating, but the good news is that Thiero is still showing his skills even in the bit he’s able to do now.
