The New York Giants have signed veteran quarterback Jake Haener from their practice squad. Haener fills the 53-man roster spot vacated when Jaxson Dart was placed on injured reserve.
The Giants also elevated wide receiver/kick returner Braxton Berrios and linebacker Malik Harrison from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans. That is the third and final elevation for each player. They will now have to be signed to the 53-man roster, or the Giants risk losing them.
Haener has
been in the league since 2023. His only game action came in 2024, when he played eight games with one start for the New Orleans Saints. He completed 18 of 39 passes with a touchdown and an interception.
The Giants will start Jameis Winston at quarterback on Sunday. Winston was recently given a two-year, $13 million contract extension.
Multiple reports have indicated that the Giants could sign a third quarterback as soon as Monday. The question will be who.
Winston’s performance on Sunday could be a factor in how aggressive the Giants are in bringing in a third quarterback. There have been reports that they have reached out to veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, a free agent. it has also been reported that GM Joe Schoen has been working the phones to see if there is a trade to be made.
