The FC Bayern Frauen are officially record breakers.
José Barcala’s team made it three wins from three in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga with a 4-1 victory over SC Freiburg. but the scoreline was only part of the story.
The win extended Bayern Munich Women’s unbeaten league run to 45 consecutive matches, setting a new Bundesliga record. Momoko Tanikawa opened the scoring with a stunning strike in the 18th minute before Vanessa Gilles doubled the lead just before halftime.
“We are delighted with
the victory and the record. But we still need to improve in some areas,” said Barcala (via FCBayern.com). “Today, our opponents were better than us at times. We are aware of that and we need to continue working on it.”
Freiburg pulled one back through Luca Birkholz after the break and briefly put Bayern under pressure, but Klara Bühl restored the two-goal advantage in the 73rd minute before Tanikawa completed her brace in stoppage time.
Barcala celebrated both the victory and the record, while making it clear there is still work to do. Bühl felt the same way, noting that Bayern created more chances and controlled more possession, but became too unsettled after conceding.
“We created more scoring opportunities and had more possession, which meant we were in their half more often. But we can still be more efficient and create even more chances,” said Bühl. “Above all, we want to keep the game calmer and not concede a goal. After Freiburg pulled one back, they applied some pressure, and we were a bit unsettled. We obviously don’t want that, and we need to analyze it.”
That is the frightening part for the rest of the Bundesliga — Bayern Munich just set a new league record and they do not think they have reached their best yet.
