Lamont Roach talks to Fight Hub TV about his upcoming fight against William Zepeda on Aug. 1, which comes on the heels of a draw with Pitbull Cruz. Here, Roach talks about why he’s fighting Zepeda and how he compares him to his last opponent, wanting to fight Shakur Stevenson, Keyshawn Davis and more. Check out some excerpts from him below.
Roach on how he assesses Zepeda compared to Pitbull
“I think Zepeda brings a whole different dynamic. He throws a lot more punches, and in some aspects they’re kind of similar because Pitbull is not known to take
a step backwards…We’ll see how Zepeda is able to take what I bring to the table as far as IQ, as far as punching power, as far as my pressure…He presents more speed, he presents more foot pressure, and the things that he does different from Pitbull it [makes] them different fighters.”
On his interest in fighting O’Shaquie Foster
“Obviously it can happen. Some business got in the way of us fighting before and it’s really easy for him to make that fight, all he has to do is say he wants to move up, he’ll be the mandatory. So for everybody listening, just know that’s all he has to do, literally.”
On his thoughts about Keyshawn Davis
“Potential foe and that’s not off of the table…I already had Zepeda on the line, basically, and that was the route we chose. So we were lining up to fight Zepeda anyway. [Keyshawn] called me out and we talked…It’s nothing wrong with calling out, you don’t have to see it as disrespect.
“A matchup with him would be great, but as you can see, he’s huge. He’s big. And he’s going up to ‘47 so I wouldn’t fight him at ‘47. I’d fight him at ‘40 but I wouldn’t fight him at ‘47. I’m a 35-pounder.”
On targeting Shakur Stevenson
“Absolutely…Skill for skill he knows we are compatible and he knows that a fight with us would be one of the best fights, especially for the 135 pound division…Obviously he has a lot on his plate so he can go whatever direction he wants but if he chooses to buckle down and say let’s do it, we are going to be ready.”
