Bo Knows! (he’s ready for gold).
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight super prospect Bo Nickal makes his first appearance of the year against Philly’s Kyle Daukaus at UFC Freedom 250 this weekend (Sun., June 14, 2026) on the White House’s South Lawn in Washington, D.C., to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.
Since the day Nickal signed with UFC, the projections have been simple: at some point, he is going to be a UFC champion. That is because of his elite wrestling background and his credentials
as a three-time NCAA Division I national wrestling champion.
But for the first few years of his UFC run, the promotion slow-rolled the Middleweight prospect, giving him favorable matchups as he entered the promotion with just a 3-0 professional record.
After racking up four wins in the Octagon, Nickal got his first real step up in competition.
The three-time NCAA Division I national wrestling champion suffered his first professional defeat at the hands of Reinier de Ridder (watch highlights), which derailed his fast track to the top and served as a humbling wake-up call that forced a mental reset.
Nickal got back to his winning ways at UFC 322 inside Madison Square Garden late last year, scoring a brutal head kick knockout (watch highlights). Now, he finds himself competing on the most historic UFC card of all time.
And with a win, he believes it could be time to start talking about UFC gold.
Well, that and former three-time UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen somewhat baited him into admitting it when he asked Nickal who he plans to call out after UFC Freedom 250.
“You tell me,” Nickal responded to Sonnen when asked who he is calling out.
“The world champion. I think it’s time,” Sonnen said.
“I agree. I think I’m ready to go,” Nickal said. “I think I’m training with the best guys in the world. I know where I’m at sparring with guys at American Top Team, and I’m proving it to myself there that I’m ready to compete at that level. I think that it is just a matter of time. I’m going to do my thing.”
Nickal explained that he has become a champion at everything he has competed in since he was five years old, and he believes the UFC belt is next on his long list of combat sports accomplishments.
The problem, of course, is that there is a massive logjam at the top of the Middleweight division, with several fighters already in line for a title shot. Nickal also is not ranked at the moment, which makes an immediate callout a little ambitious.
Oh, and then there is the small issue of Daukaus, who has been on an absolute roll since returning to the promotion last year.
So, no, Nickal is not in for an easy night.
Still, UFC understands what it has in Nickal, and the accolades he brings with him are impossible to ignore. It probably will not happen this year, but if Nickal keeps winning, it feels like only a matter of time before the 30-year-old competes for UFC gold.
