Cincinnati Bengals legend Ken Anderson spoke to Fox19 about two of his former teammates, Bob Trumpy and James Brooks, who were recently selected for the Bengals’ Ring of Honor.
The former Bengals quarterback, QB coach, and offensive coordinator called both players “great teammates” and noted Trumpy’s ability to play like a traditional tight end, blocking and getting open over the middle, while also running wide receiver routes.
“I always say [Trumpy] was Gronk before Gronk,” Anderson said, referring
to future Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski. Anderson then mentioned that Trumpy’s career yards per catch (15.4) was the best of any Bengal in the franchise’s history.
Anderson also talked about Trumpy’s bold move into the broadcast booth and beautiful voice.
Then the conversation shifted to Brooks, who Anderson praised for his exceptional toughness between the tackles despite his size as well as his pioneering play in the passing game. “At one point in his career, his touchdown receptions were head and shoulders ahead of every other running back in the league,” Anderson said.
