The Penguins have made a trade with the Edmonton Oilers, acquiring defenseman Spencer Stastney in exchange for forward Filip Hallander.
The team announced Wednesday afternoon that Stastney, 26 had been acquired.
Stastney, 26, is signed through the end of the season on a deal with a cap hit of $1.525 million.
Last year, Stastney spent the season split between Edmonton and Nashville. During 66 total games played, he scored two goals and eight assists, logging a large chunk of time on the penalty kill.
In total throughout his career, Stastney has played in 117 regular season games and three Stanley Cup playoff games.
After being picked in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Draft, Stastney played four years of college hockey at the University of Notre Dame.
It’s unclear how soon Stastney might be in the lineup for Pittsburgh, who will be in action tonight on the road against the Capitals. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
