The injury to San Diego Padres All-Star reliever Jason Adam against the Baltimore Orioles was a tough sight to see for fans of the Padres and for baseball fans in general. It is never good to see a worldclass athlete drop to the ground, immediately recognize he is hurt, and remain
down for a significant period as was the case, Monday.
Adam threw a pitch and planted on his left leg to try to turn and make a play on a groundball back through the mound and immediately collapsed on the dirt in front of the mound. A stunned Petco Park waited in silence until Adam was taken off the field on a cart with fans cheering for him as he was driven away.
The question Gaslamp Ball posed earlier this week was, Did the San Diego playoff hopes leave with Adam on that cart? Some of the Friar Faithful believe the depth of the Padres bullpen can withstand the loss and has the personnel in place to fill the void. Others believe that San Diego will still get to the postseason, but may not have the run that could have come with a healthy Adam in the ‘pen. The majority of the Friar Faithful believe this injury is what will keep the Padres from reaching the postseason.

The question posed about the Adam injury came during a nine-game stretch where San Diego finished 2-9 and was swept by Baltimore at home. Perhaps the bitter taste of a losing streak played a role in how the Friar Faithful felt about how the loss of Adam would impact the team? Perhaps it speaks to how much those same fans value Adam and his contributions? In either instance, there is no doubt he has been lost for the remainder of the 2025 season and possibly part of the 2026 season, depending on his recovery.
The Padres still have a bevy of capable arms in the bullpen, but there is no doubt the absence of Adam will be felt. To what extent remains to be seen.
