Gary Russell Jr just recently took to social media to reveal that he’s currently in negotiations to stage a fight against Shakur Stevenson. While terms have not yet been reached, Russell Jr says he’s actively working on finalizing a deal but thus far the financial terms on his side hasn’t been quite right.
“We are 110% in negotiation to try to make this fight with Shakur Stevenson,” Russell Jr said. “First, I want to say we were the first ones to try to make the fight with Shakur, they tried to say they wanted
to go in a different direction. And now out of nowhere Shakur pops up stating that he wants to unify and make a fight and etc.
“I believe Shakur really do want to make a fight but I question if the people around him or his team around him really want to make a fight happen because the numbers don’t reflect that.
I also want to address Tim Bradley [saying I turned down a $2M offer]…It was never a $2M purse, just a FYI for everybody. They never mentioned $2M. Real men don’t even speak figures but that wasn’t the number. And for Tim Bradley to even say something like that, you used to be a fighter and I’m pretty sure when you competed against Pac, etc., you did negotiation to get the possible deal for yourself. And if you didn’t you were stupid.
“But we are adamant about trying to make this fight happen.”
