As rumors swirl regarding Dusan Vlahovic’s potential contract status at Juventus beyond this season, there’s another rather prominent player in bianconero who is discussing a new deal with the club. He
is one who is being viewed is arguably the biggest piece to Juve’s potential success in the future, and a young man who is in line for a big raise to get him in the range of the highest earners at the club.
So when Giorgio Chiellini, who is now wearing a suit every day as part of Juve’s front office, was asked at the Social Football Summit on Wednesday about where things stand when it comes to Kenan Yildiz and the new contract pretty much every supporter of the club wants him to sign as soon as possible.
What did Chiellini have to say about the contract talks with Yildiz’s camp? Well, not much. But what he did say will probably be able to at least quell a few nerves considering just how long this process has taken since news first broke before the Club World Cup got underway that Juve wanted to sign the budding Turkish star to yet another new contract.
Yildiz’s renewal? Calm down. Everyone’s willing: with balance and calm, everything can be done.
It’s short, but it’s a decisive statement from somebody who is much more in-the-know about these contract talks with Yildiz’s camp than any of us are. Chiellini, as you might expect, has probably been involved in talks in some kind of way, although probably not to the extent of new CEO Damien Comolli has since he joined the club in the summertime.
Regardless of what Chiellini has now said on the record about contract talks with Yildiz and where things stand, that doesn’t mean the rumors about the Premier League giants or Real Madrid lurking in the distance. (At least an international break is about to come to an end and there won’t be another one until March, so that will hopefully see the fodder calm down a little bit as folks actually pay attention to on-field matters again.)
From what has been previously been reported, Yildiz is hoping to secure a salary of around €5.5 million or even €6 million — which would put him up there as one of Juventus’ top earners not named Vlahovic, who earns a Serie A-high €12 million net this season in the final year of his contract. The new contract would run through 2030, adding another year onto a deal that currently goes through 2029.
