Union Saint-Gilloise head coach David Hubert thinks that his team’s Champions League showdown against Bayern Munich is the biggest match in the club’s history.
“It doesn’t get any bigger than this – it’s the biggest game in the club’s history. Bayern are right up there when you look at the best teams in Europe. You can’t find a bigger challenge. But there’s confidence and hunger in our team. We want to show ourselves tomorrow. You see, everything is bigger here, even the microphone is bigger,” Hubert
said with a laugh (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “The danger comes to you from all sides against Bayern. I like to review the chances an opponent creates before we play them. Normally, that takes two hours, but with Bayern it took two days. They have all the qualities, both collectively and individually.
“Aggressive pressing, playing between the lines, down the wing, they have some truly exceptional players. They’re a team with no limits. But as long as the odds aren’t zero, you have a chance. We have to try to seize it. And after all, it’s eleven people against us. They have two legs, two arms, two lungs, just like us… We’re looking forward to it.”
Yup, Hubert is impressed with the Bavarians. However, the manager’s message is that in the Champions League…anything can happen.
“In the Champions League, you compete against the best, and Bayern are currently the best in Europe. We want to show our best side. That’s why we play this sport. In football, there’s always a chance,” Hubert said.
