Good, bad, or indifferent, one thing you can say about Cleveland Browns GM Andrew Berry is that he is never settled on a roster. Whether it is switching out one defender for another on the practice squad or the willingness to make trades, Berry’s time with the Browns has been full of roster moves.
Often, those moves come after games as the coaching staff and front office evaluate performances. “Churning the bottom of the roster” is pretty common in the NFL, but Berry keeps Berea busy with a lot of workouts
as well.
That continued on Monday, as the first day of Week 1’s game week kicked off. While the team was back on the field, Berry brought in nine players for workouts:
- QB Connor Bazelak: A Dayton, Ohio native and former BGSU QB, Bazelak battled for the backup QB spot with Tampa Bay this offseason before being waived during final cuts
- WR Cam Camper: An Indiana and Boise State product, Camper spent the offseason with the New York Jets
- TE Cody Hardy: An UDFA, Hardy spent training camp with the New Orleans Saints
- TE Layne Pryor: After spending much of last season on the Houston Texans’ practice squad, Pryor did not make the team coming out of training camp
- WR Quentin Skinner: One career game played, with the New York Jets last year, with one catch for 10 yards; Skinner was with the Buffalo Bills last, during training camp
- WR EJ Williams Jr.: A UDFA from the National Champion Indiana Hoosiers, Williams couldn’t catch on with the Las Vegas Raiders’ roster
- DE Nadame Tucker: A 26-year-old rookie, Tucker had a productive preseason with the Los Angeles Chargers but didn’t make their initial 53-man roster and was just released from their practice squad
- DT Zion Wilson: Spending the offseason with the Philadelphia Eagles, the athletic UDFA missed making the roster after a couple of quality games in the preseason
The Browns will be back on the practice field on Wednesday, which could see one or more of the above players added to one of the rosters on Tuesday.
