Things progressed very quickly on the George Pickens front for the Dallas Cowboys. During the team’s pre-draft press conference on Wednesday it was noted by Stephen Jones that the team was going to have Pickens play the season out on his tag. It was a curious thing to say to say the least.
A few hours before the NFL draft was set to begin it was reported that Stephen and Jerry Jones made peace, so to speak, with David Mulugheta. This is significant as Mulugheta represents Pickens and the relationship
between he and the Cowboys soured with the Micah Parsons saga of last year.
Shortly after that, about two hours before draft time, it was reported that Pickens is set to sign the tag.
It is possible that all of these things happen in sequence because everyone is happy and all is well. That is fair. It is also possible that George Pickens could be dealt during the NFL draft now.
The value of the tag is just south of $28M for the 2026 season. A team could find that to be quite the bargain and now can negotiate a trade for someone under contract.
This is curious to say the least. Buckle up.
