Jalen Ramsey is the last player from 2025’s blockbuster Steelers-Dolphins trade to still be on Pittsburgh or Miami’s roster.
Early Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the Miami Dolphins are trading former Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to the New York Jets for a 2026 seventh-round pick. Fitzpatrick will, however, be earning a three-year, $40 million extension with the Jets, which will keep him in the top 15 contracts at his position for now.
The move comes day after the Steelers released former Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith ahead of free agency. Smith was the third player involved in the aforementioned 2025 trade, where Pittsburgh dealt Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick for Smith, Ramsey, and a 2027 seventh.
The move was a headliner, but neither Smith not Fitzpatrick did enough with their new teams to earn a second year with their contracts. Fitzpatrick is now 29; Smith is 30 and Ramsey is 31.
Fitzpatrick made five Pro Bowls and three first-team All-Pros with Pittsburgh from 2019-24. As the Steelers dealt him less than two seasons ago, he could not be traded back in 2026.
