Sergio Busquets is back at Barcelona this season and is working with Juliano Belletti’s Barca Atletic side as an assistant coach.
It’s the midfield legend’s first steps towards a coaching career, as he follows in the footsteps of former team-mates Xavi Hernandez, Cesc Fabregas and Andres Iniesta.
Fabregas has already been tipped to be a future Barcelona boss, and Busquets thinks he could well end up in the hotseat at Camp Nou.
“Great coaches can manage great teams, and I think Cesc is on his way there.
I don’t know if it will actually happen, if he’ll want it, but if everything continues as it is, it’s possible, of course,” he told reporters.
Busquets also praised the work that Fabregas has done with Como and thinks they will prove tough opponents for Barca when the two teams meet in the League Phase in January.
“Como is one of my favorites, not just because of Cesc, but because of the players. Last year was historic for them, and I hope they do very well,” he added.
“With the coach they have and if they continue along the same lines, they’re sure to be a tough opponent. The new Champions League format gives these teams a chance, and they’ll definitely be there.”
Barcelona started off their Champions League campaign with a 5-1 win over Feyenoord, while Fabregas guided Como to an impressive 4-1 win over RB Leipzig.
