We’ve talked a lot about the raw athleticism of Duke freshman Deron Rippey. We got a good look at it against Tennessee, when Rippey shot 9-12, and also got 3 assists, 3 steals, 2 rebounds, all in 21 minutes.
But perhaps the most insane example of Rippey’s athleticism came against Army. We don’t remember who took the shot, but it doesn’t really matter. What matter is what Rippey did with it. On the one hand, he had the instinct and daring to go after the miss.
But on the other, he had the talent to
go up and get it, and throw one down that amazed everyone. He’s 6-3 and his head is nearly at the rim.
As jaw-dropping as that play was, though, don’t just watch this video.
Instead, have your finger ready to tap on the space bar, and remember: you’re not watching Rippey. You’re watching the faces of Army’s Drew Timmons, #22, and Tate Laczkowski, #34.
Laczkowski, in particular, looks absolutely shocked. He’s a basketball player too, but he just got a glimpse of elite talent that most of us can only dream of, and, pretty clearly, it blew his mind.
By the way, look at the bottom of the video before you play it. It blew away Showtime Slim as well.
