For the Dallas Cowboys game against the New York Giants on Sunday, we need some intel from an expert on the G-men. This week we talk to Ed Valentine at Big Blue View for some information on the Cowboys NFC East rival. We asked five questions and got five answers.
Blogging The Boys: Should Russell Wilson get the start again or are you ready for Jaxson Dart?
Big Blue View: I have said consistently that the Giants, and Jaxson Dart specifically, will be best served by waiting as long as possible to turn
to Dart. No quarterback has ever been hurt by having to wait his turn. Plenty have been ruined by being asked to do too much too soon, or by being thrown to the wolves in front of terrible offensive lines. The longer the Giants can wait, the better.
That said, I don’t know how long they can, or will, wait. Brian Daboll is, justifiably, under pressure. His future is tied to Jaxson Dart. I can’t imagine he will let the season slip away before getting Dart on the field. I do not think it would be best for Dart, but if the Giants no-show on offense again I won’t be shocked if Dart takes over at some point on Sunday.
BTB: Coming out of Week 1, what would you call the strength of the Giants in 2025?
BBV: Well, the strength is their defense. In particular, the Core Four of Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux. The questions defensively are can they defend the run well enough, and can they cover long enough, to let their pass rush do its thing. Against Washington, they could not.
BTB: The biggest weakness?
BBV: Until proven otherwise it has to be the offensive line. Now, things should improve whenever Andrew Thomas gets healthy enough to play — which I doubt will be this week. Also, I was surprised at the lack of cohesion in run blocking vs. Washington from a veteran group that played together last year.
BTB: Should Brian Daboll still be the coach and do you think he survives this season?
BBV: I supported bringing Daboll back this year. I thought he deserved an opportunity to see what he could do in a full post-Daniel Jones season, and with a young quarterback to develop for the future. If you mean does Daboll get fired during the season I do not think so. That’s not how the Mara family does things. Ben McAdoo and Jerry Reese got fired midseason in 2017 because of all the controversy swirling around the team with the Eli Manning benching and open player revolt.
As for after this season, what I have said consistently is that because of their experience with Jones I think ownership will be looking for reasons to keep Daboll rather than looking for reasons to fire him. They will want to give him the rope to see what he can do with Dart. Can he keep this season on the rails enough to give ownership reasons to keep him? I don’t know.
BTB: How do you see the game going on Sunday and who wins by what score?
BBV: I fully intended to pick the Giants to win this week, but after the egg they laid against the Commanders I can’t bring myself to do it. I think it is possible they can win if they find a way offensively or defensively to create some game-changing plays, but I need to see it to believe it will happen. I couldn’t give you a score. I just have my fingers crossed it includes at least one Giants touchdown. I think I will refuse to go anywhere near the comments at BBV if it doesn’t.
Thanks for the knowledge, Big Blue View.
