Two former Detroit Lions have made this year’s list of Michigan Sports Hall of Fame nominees list.
Established in 1954, the Michigan Sports HOF honors athletes, coaches, media, and personalities for their contributions to Michigan’s sports history and success. Candidates are separated into five categories — Amateur, Professional, Coach, Media, and Contributor.
Former Lions Kevin Glover and Thomas “Pepper” Johnson are two of 10 total nominees in the Professional category. Glover was drafted by the Lions in 1985
and during his 15 years in the NFL at center, earned three Pro Bowl nods and four All-Pro accolades. He played 13 years in Detroit and was a key part of the rushing attack led by Barry Sanders.
Born in Detroit, Pepper landed on the State of Michigan high school all-decade team for the 1980s thanks to a standout football career at MacKenzie High School. The Ohio State linebacker earned All-American honors as a senior in 1985. He won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants between 1986 and 1992 until returning home to the Motor City to play for the Lions in 1996.
Fans are allowed to vote once, scoring candidates on a 1-10 point scale based on each nominee’s HOF worthiness, with a 10 being the highest. Voting is open now and closes on Friday, June 12. You can cast your vote here.
And onto the rest of your notes.
- Over on The Feed, user Blueingreer found an interesting YouTube video where the creator explains why the new Lions offensive coordinator’s scheme could be the perfect recipe for Jahmyr Gibbs.
- Speaking of Gibbs — just as the Detroit Grand Prix rolls into town, Faygo rolls out a fun, new ad with the fast-as-lightning running back vs. driver Nolan Allaer.
- May need the tissues for this one. Read the caption in full.
- HBD!
