The October 2025 FIFA rankings are out, and the United States Men’s National Team have dropped another place. The USMNT, fresh off a win against Australia and draw against Ecuador in the October international window, fell one place to 16th in the world.
The USMNT have hovered in the mid-teens in the world rankings for almost all of 2025, and after getting a draw and win in the October window, they only gained 1.33 points in the standings. Considering that the team played in friendlies while much of the rest
of the world were involved in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, the USMNT weren’t expected to move much.
Still, with just a couple of windows left before the 2026 World Cup roster is named, the team has lined up some serious tests for November and are aiming high for March. Next month, the United States will face Paraguay (39th, down 2 spots) in Chester, Pennsylvania and Uruguay (15th) in Tampa. And, there are reports that the team is trying to line up friendlies against Portugal (5th) and Belgium (8th) for the March international window. According to Yahoo! Sports’ Steven Goff, those matches could both be held in Atlanta.
The USMNT remains the 2nd highest FIFA ranked team in Concacaf. Fellow World Cup co-host Mexico checks in at 14th in the world, while the other co-host Canada dropped 2 spots to 28th in the world. Panama (31st, -2 spots), Costa Rica (45th, +2 spots), and Honduras (64th, +1 spot) round out the top 5 in the region as we continue into November.
Spain continues to sit atop the FIFA World Rankings, while Argentina moved up one spot to 2nd over France. The top 10 teams in the world: Spain, Argentina (+1 spot), France (-1), England, Portugal, Netherlands (+1), Brazil (-1), Belgium, Italy (+1), and Germany (+2). They are followed very closely by Croatia (11th, -2 spots), Morocco (12th, -1), Colombia (13th), Mexico (14th), and Uruguay (15th), with the difference between 9th and 12th being only 7 points.
Next month’s matches will be important for those teams as they jockey to get into a position to become one of the seeded teams at the World Cup draw on December 5th. With 12 groups and the United States, Mexico, and Canada being automatically seeded as co-hosts, the top 9 teams that make the World Cup will also be seeded. That will be motivation for some of these European teams especially as they close out World Cup qualifying in November. Morocco, who completed qualifying this week, will seemingly fall short of being seeded at the World Cup draw.
The USMNT won’t need to worry about their own World Cup seeding as a co-host, but like the rest of us, they will be eyeing the November qualifiers to see who they could potentially see in the group stage of the World Cup when it begins in June.
