Bayern Munich is and has always been quite focused on their long-term planning, making sure to build a future for their club. On that front, fans of the club now have quite an exciting development.
Per
a report captured by Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, decisive progress is expected before the end of December in the negotiations between FC Bayern and Ecuadorian side SD Aucas for highly rated 17-year-old centre-back Virgilio Olaya. The report says that Bayern’s Campus chief Jochen Sauer is said to be driving the deal himself, which already signals how seriously Bayern view the youngster.
According to the report, Bayern’s plan is straightforward and smart: bring Olaya in, integrate him into the club’s system, and then send him out on loan this coming summer. Grasshopper Club Zürich appear to be the frontrunners to take him in, an ideal stepping stone for a young defender adjusting to European football.
Inside Säbener Straße, some staff are even likening Olaya to a young Piero Hincapié. Now, Piero may only be a few years older than Olaya, but a €50 million deal to Arsenal from Bayer Leverkusen speaks volumes in itself.
For a club critiqued for not signing enough future defensive pillars, this move, if finalised, could quietly become one of those “remember when they spotted him early” stories. Should Bayern sign him on? Or invest elsewhere? Let us know in the comments!
