Anthony Gordon’s season has split opinion at Newcastle United, with elite European production contrasting sharply against his inconsistent Premier League form.
The 25-year-old has scored 10 goals in the Champions League but has struggled domestically, prompting renewed interest from Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool ahead of the summer window.
“Gordon has had a strange season. He has been prolific in the Champions League, scoring 10 goals in as many appearances, but has struggled for goals and
assists in the Premier League,” The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards said.
Speculation has also centered on last year’s failed move to Liverpool.
“Indeed, there is a view the 25-year-old has not been the same player for Newcastle since he thought he was on the brink of a move to Liverpool in the summer of 2024,” Edwards said. “He wanted to go.”
Despite that, Gordon remains central to Eddie Howe’s tactical setup, and thus, his sale is expected to be envisioned, not at least as soon as this summer.
“Gordon, though, remains one of Newcastle’s most important players and, if anything, his switch to a more central role this season has made him even more valuable to manager Eddie Howe,” Edwards said.
With Gordon under contract until 2030 and valued at £100m, Edwards’ conclusion wasn’t clear at all: “Verdict: Uncertain.”
