Leroy Sané’s difficult start to the season at Galatasaray is beginning to attract attention back in Germany, particularly given the circumstances surrounding his departure from Bayern Munich.
According to Turkish newspaper Fanatik (as captured by Tz), Galatasaray’s management has summoned Sané for crisis talks after becoming increasingly concerned about his performances. The former Bayern Munich winger has failed to register either a goal or an assist in seven league appearances this season, with
his struggles continuing in Galatasaray’s 4-0 defeat to Trabzonspor before the international break.
The club reportedly expects Sané to explain his poor form, while upcoming matches against Kasımpaşa and Barcelona are being viewed as important tests. Fanatik reports that another disappointing run could even result in Sané being dropped from the squad.
For those following Sané from Germany, the situation represents a striking development for a player who spent a significant chunk of his career at Bayern Munich. Sané arrived from Manchester City in 2020 with enormous expectations and produced some excellent stretches during his time in Munich, but consistency was frequently an issue. His Bayern Munich career ultimately ended in the summer of 2025, when he left the club as a free agent and joined Galatasaray.
Sané initially appeared to have found a fresh start in Turkey. He contributed seven goals and nine assists in 43 competitive appearances during his first season with Galatasaray, helping the club win the Turkish championship.
There is also a degree of irony to the situation from a Bayern Munich perspective. Sané’s departure was partly viewed as an opportunity for the club to move forward and reshape its attack, while the player had the chance to establish himself in a different environment. Instead, barely more than a year later, he is facing questions about his performances at his new club.
Of course, seven league appearances do not define Sané’s time at Galatasaray, and his history shows that he is capable of producing decisive moments when he finds his rhythm. However, the lack of goals and assists, combined with the club’s reported concerns, has put him under pressure remarkably early in the campaign. As we know, Sané has not always handled pressure well.
For Bayern Munich supporters watching from Germany, Sané’s situation is another reminder of the complicated legacy he left in Munich. There was always a sense that his talent was undeniable, while the debate centered on whether he could consistently translate that talent into production.
Now, Galatasaray is asking the same question.
