The San Diego Padres went 4-2 on their homestand before an off day to prepare for a six-game road trip. The Padres open the first of two series when they face the Tampa Bay Rays this afternoon at 4:10 p.m.
San Diego had an offensive surge against the Minnesota Twins, sweeping the AL Central team. There was no such luck with the Pittsburgh Pirates who took two of three games on the strength of a starting rotation of Braxton Ashcraft, Paul Skenes and Bubba Chandler. The Padres won the third game beating
Chandler and the Pirates 3-0. The two teams combined for nine runs over the three-game series.
San Diego will once again face a solid rotation of pitchers in Tampa Bay. The AL East-leading Rays will throw Shane McClanahan, Nick Martinez and Drew Rasmussen. The Padres will need to return to the offensive form they had against the Twins if they want to get their road trip started on the right foot.
