Bayern Munich had to survive a spirited second half effort from Borussia Dortmund, but came away 2-1 winners in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup at Westfalendstadion in the 2026/27 season’s proverbial curtain raiser. First half goals from new signing Nathaniel Brown and Michael Olise were enough to get the job done and Fabio Silva’s second half strike for Dortmund proved to be nothing more than a consolation and springboard for a late second half surge.
Ramy Bensebaini had a first half goal ruled out
by the offside flag and substitute Maximilian Beier skied a close-range effort late on in the match, but Bayern registered nine shots on target to Dortmund’s three and quite arguably should’ve scored more than just twice. Gregor Kobel was wise to the task on several occasions to keep his side in the match, but Vincent Kompany’s side will nonetheless take the momentum of the win into the start of the Bundesliga campaign next weekend.
For Brown, it was a solid maiden competitive performance for the signing from Eintracht Frankfurt, capped off with his 28th minute goal that left Kobel rooted to his spot. He also started on the right side of defense despite being a left back by trade while Josip Stanišić started on the left, though he got forward quite often and very involved in Bayern’s attacking efforts. In addition to his goal in the first half, Brown also completed 13 accurate passes and drew 3 fouls as he was persistently difficult to disposses.
Speaking after the match, Brown was as humble as ever and said that he wants to continue winning matches with the German Rekordmeister. “It feels so good (having scored). I’m very happy to have scored today. My goal is to continue to win games and trophies,” he explained before the official trophy presentation.
With this performance in Dortmund, Brown certainly staked his claim for Kompany in the defensive ranks as he’ll face competition from Alphonso Davies on the left flank.
