The Phillies announced today that they have agreed to a deal with right-handed pitcher Zach Pop.
Pop, 29, is a five-year MLB veteran who spent 2025 with the Mariners, Mets, and Cubs but only appeared in five MLB games. He allowed 11 earned runs on 15 hits, including four home runs, in 6.2 IP with three strikeouts and two walks. Pop made 20 total Minor League appearances from rookie ball all the way to the Triple-A
level where he had a combined 4.19 ERA in 19.1 IP with 23 strikeouts to 8 walks.
As far as arsenal, Pop possesses above average velocity on his sinker that averaged 96.4 MPH last season. He’s primarily used the sinker in his career, throwing it over 50% every year that he’s been in the Majors. Pop’s also featured a slider and in 2024 he added a cutter, throwing both around 20% of the time.
Pop will likely compete for a job in the Phillies bullpen this spring with recent additions Zach McCambley and Jonathan Bowlan. All three players are out of minor league options, and McCambley was a rule five pick who must stay on the MLB roster all season or be offered back to the Marlins.
