The Iowa Cubs were rounded up by the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Astros), 5-2.
Spencer Turnbull started and took the loss after getting knocked around for five runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings. Turnbull walked three and struck out six.
Cole Reynolds shined in his Triple-A
debut, going 3.1 innings and allowing no runs and just one hit. That hit was a bunt single. Reynolds walked two and struck out four.
First baseman Chase Strumpf doubled twice in a perfect 2 for 2 night. He also walked once and scored once.
Nicky Lopez went 1 for 2 with a double and two walks.
A RBI single for catcher Moises Ballesteros, who was 1 for 4.
Knoxville Smokies
The Knoxville Smokies ate up the Montgomery Biscuits (Rays), 9-3.
Starter Tommy Romero gave up one run in the second, fourth and fifth innings. His final line was three runs on six hits over five innings. He walked three and struck out two.
The Smokies scored three runs in the seventh inning and three more in the eighth, so reliever Evan Taylor got the win. Taylor pitched two scoreless innings and permitted just one hit and one walk. He struck out three.
Catcher Ethan Hearn hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning, his seventh on the season. Hearn was 3 for 4 with the home run. He drove in three runs and he scored three runs.
Left fielder Jordan Nwogu had four at-bats and he had four singles. He also stole a base. Nwogu scored three times.
Center fielder Brett Bateman was 3 for 4 with a stolen base. He had a two-run single in the eighth.
Right fielder Andy Garriola was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI single. Garriola scored twice.

South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs detasseled the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Angels), 6-2. Beloit lost to Wisconsin, so South Bend took a one-game lead in the second-half standings.
Nazier Mulé made his South Bend debut in this game and allowed one run in each of the first two innings. His final line was two runs on five hits over 3.1 innings. Mulé walked four, hit one batter and struck out three.
Koen Moreno threw the next 3.2 innings without allowing a run or a hit and collected the win. Moreno struck out four and walked one.
Shorstop Cristian Hernandez went 2 for 4 with two steals and two RBI. He scored from second base on a steal of third and a wild pitch.
Catcher Miguel Pabon was 2 for 4 with an RBI single in the eighth.
Right fielder Rafael Morel went 1 for 2 with two walks and a steal. He scored three runs.
Second baseman Drew Bowser was 1 for 1 with two walks. He scored once and drove in one.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans chained up the Charleston RiverDogs (Rays), 7-0.
Dawson Netz made his first Pelicans start and combined with three other pitchers on a three-hit shutout. Netz got the win after giving up the three hits over five innings. He walked one and struck out four.
Joel Sierra didn’t allow a hit over the next two innings. He walked one and struck out four.
Pierce Coppola threw the final two innings in his professional debut. Coppola gave up no hits, but he did walk three while striking out four.
DH Yahil Melendez was perfect tonight, going 2 for 2 with a double and two walks. He also stole a base. Melendez scored once.
Right fielder Kane Kepley went 3 for 4 with an RBI single in the sixth. He also scored once.
Second baseman Jose Escobar was 2 for 3 with a walk and a steal. He scored two runs.
Shortstop Angel Cepeda went 2 for 4 with RBI singles in the fifth and sixth innings.
The win gives the Pelicans a 35-14 record in the second half and an eight-game lead over Augusta with 16 games to play.
