Following the DFB Pokal win against Union Berlin, Bayern Munich faced VfB Stuttgart in the league away. Facing one of the strongest teams at the league was certainly a solid challenge for the Bavarians.
They started a mostly rotated squad as well, to rest the A team.
Having registered only one goal in the first half, by dint of a well-timed Michael Olise assist and an absolutely incredible backheel from Konrad Laimer, Bayern were in need of attacking manpower. In the 61st, manager Vincent Kompany made a perfectly timed decision in substituting Nicolas Jackson with Harry Kane. This proved to be the right decision as Kane breathed life into the game, relentlessly working to win the ball and make something of it. In five minutes, the striker scored his first, making it 2-0.
In the 81st, Assignon from Stuttgart was handed a red, following which Harry Kane made it 4-0 from the spot. He closed off the game with a hattrick, making it 5-0 in the 88th.
According to @iMiaSanMia, Kane revealed that he is not used to coming on as a sub, but did it a few times this season under the instructions of the manager. “It’s something I’m not used to, but I did it a couple of times this season. The boss wanted to keep me fresh and save energy,” he explained.
“I came on after 60 minutes with a couple of other guys and we were able to exploit the space and get the goals,” he further went on.
Reflecting on the midweek Pokal win, he spoke on the fact that Bayern have faced tough games back to back and come out with wins. “We had a tough battle in the cup mid-week and today we faced one of the best teams in the league away, but we looked stronger in the last half an hour and punished them,” he declared, praising the team.
Kane has now registered his 10th hattrick with Bayern with this game and was awarded Man of the Match for his extraordinary game.
