1. Trinity Byars bags a brace once again in Wave 3-2 win against Racing Louisville
San Diego Wave were down 2-0 at home against Racing Louisville. The visiting side conceded possession, but were ready for their few moments they had with a goal against the run of play, and a set piece. However, San Diego did not waiver keeping the pressure high and earning a 3-2 comeback win in the second half with a brace a brace by Trinity Byars and a game-winning goal from the returning Kenza Dali. The brace was
Byars’ second in a row, and kept the Wave into fourth place on the NWSL table.
2. Paige Metayer scores her first goal of the NWSL season in Spirit win over Bay FC
The Washington Spirit were on a four-match winless streak heading into the weekend against Bay FC, but turned the results around with an important 1-0 win against Bay FC. The lone goal for the Spirit came at the end of stoppage time when Trinity Rodman used her patented speed to get down the pitch and into a dangerous position inside the penalty area. Rodman didn’t have a clear look on goal so she crossed it to the middle for Paige Metayer who only needed to touch it to make it 1-0.
3. Gotham FC and Portland Thorns play to draw in potential playoff preview
The Portland Thorns proved once again they can keep up with a top team like Gotham FC, and Gotham extended their undefeated streak to 10 matches with their last loss on the road against San Diego Wave FC on July 4.
The best moment of the night came from an unbelievable goal by Jaedyn Shaw that had many debating whether it was intended to be a cross or a shot. Ultimately the Thorns responded after the referee determined Jaelin Howell conceded a penalty following a VAR review.
4. Denver Summit offense explodes in 6-1 victory against the Chicago Stars
Many teams have beaten the Chicago Stars this season, but Denver Summit made a huge impact scoring six goals over the course of 90 minutes for their largest win in the club’s short history. Five different players got on the scoresheet: Janine Sonis, Olivia Thomas, Yuzuki Yamamoto, Tash Flint, and Melissa Kössler who scored a brace.
Olivia Thomas’ goal was the final goal of the night and the first goal of her professional career. The victory put the Summit within four points of the final spot in the NWSL playoffs.
5. Angel City FC notch five in Monday night football match against Boston Legacy
Angel City FC ended a six-match winless streak with their 5-2 win against Boston Legacy in what could be the start of another Los Angeles versus Boston sports rivalry. The win put the Southern California club into 9th place and only two points out of the final playoff spot in the NWSL. As noted by OptaJack Angel City became the first-ever NWSL team to score three goals from outside the penalty area in a regular-season match.
6. Utah Royals send Pride coach packing in 2-1 win
The Orlando Pride decided to fire Head Coach Seb Hines following a thus far underwhelming 2026 season. The straw that broke the camel’s back was their 2-1 loss against the Utah Royals. The Pride took the lead before the end of the first half, but allowed the Royals to control the game with their possession and create two goals in the second half. Cloe Lacasse was involved in both goals, first scoring the equalizer then getting the assist later on.
7. Kansas City Current hold off Courage in 3-2 victory at CPKC stadium
Ashley Sanchez bagged a brace in each of her last two matches with the Courage, but Kansas City was able to slow down the NWLS Golden Boot leader in a 3-2 victory in CPKC Stadium. The Current scored all their goals in the first half which included an incredible goal toward the near post by Croix Bethune.
8. Maddie Dahlien puts Seattle Reign ahead with 1-0 win against Houston Dash
The Seattle Reign kept the final spot in the NWSL playoffs with nine matches left in their season with a 1-0 win against the Houston Dash. The lone goal of the night came just a few minutes after play restarted in the second half around the 52nd minute. Reign ‘s leading scorer, Maddie Mercado moved the ball down the pitch drawing defenders leaving Maddie Dahlien wide open for a cross from Mercado to score easily making it 1-0.
