At halftime of Bayern Munich’s 2-1 win over PSV Eindhoven, sporting director Christoph Freund was asked about the suddenly iffy status of midfielder Leon Goretzka, who has been linked to Atlético Madrid, AC Milan, and Tottenham Hotspur in recent days.
Freund said that he doubted Goretzka would be leaving during this transfer window.
“No, I don’t think so. Leon is a very important player for us. He’s played a lot of games for us. His contract expires in the summer. There’s no final decision yet. Of
course, the transfer window closes on Monday. You can never completely rule anything out in football, but right now he’s an important player for us, and we’re happy about that,” Freund told Sky Sport Austria (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
The speculation is mounting around Goretzka and it does not feel like a 100% certainty that the midfielder is definitely staying in Bavaria.
With just days to go in the winter transfer window, we should know very soon if Goretzka will be on the move.
Goretzka did not play in the match vs. PSV Eindhoven.
