Trevor Murdoch pulled a fast one on the fans of the National Wrestling Alliance. About two months ago, Murdoch made an impulsive decision to retire in the ring. Fast forward to the latest episode of NWA Powerrr (airing June 27, 2026), and Murdoch faked everyone out with inspiration from Harley Race.
After losing to Pretty Boy Smooth, Murdoch gave a speech deciding it was time to retire. The emotion felt real, and, honestly, it was an appropriate way to go out as a blue-collar wrestler without pomp
and circumstance. Murdoch explained that he didn’t want to hang on too long and embarrass himself, his family, and mentor Harley Race.
On the latest episode of Powerrr, the NWA gave time for Murdoch to speak about his retirement. The retirement happened in the spur of the moment, so this was a chance to collect his thoughts. Murdoch thanked the fans. It was a dream for a fat kid from Missouri to have a 27-year career in the business that he loves. Murdoch was lucky to be trained by Harley Race and also legends in Japan. He even had his name called on the big stage of Madison Square Garden.
Mike Knox, who is Murdoch’s tag team partner, came to the ring with a gift box. He opened it to reveal a king’s robe and crown, which Murdoch wore proudly. Knox forced interviewer Kyle Davis to kneel as Murdoch pulled the swerve for his new character. Murdoch mocked the fans for being stupid enough to believe that he would retire while on top of the NWA. The king never retires. From this point forward, everyone shall address him as King Trevor Murdoch I (The First).
Murdoch was no doubt inspired by Harley Race’s run as King of the Ring winner. Race was victorious in WWE’s King of the Ring tournament in 1986 by defeating Pedro Morales in the final. Race was coronated king by Bobby Heenan.
Long live the king.
NWA Powerrr airs Saturdays at 4 PM ET on Comet TV and worldwide on Comet’s website.
