Kim Min-jae’s Bayern Munich career has been filled with many highs and lows, from being a key player to being demoted to reserve player, from game winning tackles to mistakes that cost Bayern. The South Korean international’s highlight moment from the Champions League match against Union Saint-Gilloise was more of a low, as he collected two yellow cards and got himself sent off.
However, head coach Vincent Kompany sees the positives in Kim’s performance before the sending off and is not too upset
with him about the red card:
“He’s experienced. He won the Scudetto in Italy and the Bundesliga, he’s an international player. The red card is part of football,” Kompany explained, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “He’s suspended for the next game, luckily it’s not a decisive game. If we talk about performance, Min-jae and Tah helped us a lot in this game to not have any ‘crazy’ moments. They defended well in the first half, when others maybe didn’t have their performance. As a defender myself, I know that it [red card] can happen. I know Min-jae, this won’t affect him. He’s not a 19-year old youngster.”
Given fellow center back Dayot Upamecano may also miss this weekend’s Bundesliga clash against Augsburg, Kim may get another chance to show more of the qualities present in his starring display in the 3-1 win against Köln before sitting out the following match in the UCL away against PSV Eindhoven due to suspension.
