Mystics get blown out at home against the Fire, 75-56.
Washington got off to a really sluggish start. Getting down by 23, the Mystics dug themselves in a deep hole early and spent the rest of the game trying to climb out of it. The team shooting only 32 percent from the field, with 13 turnovers in the 1st half, was a recipe for disaster for the team.
The 2nd half was not much better. Mystics really struggled offensively with many sloppy turnovers, missed layups and just having a hard time playing against
the Fire’s hedging defensive coverage in the Mystics pick and roll action. What kept the Mystics in the game however is their defense. They were able to hold the Fire to just 12 points in the 3rd, but Washington only mustered 14 points themselves.
Mystics just could not figure it out on offense. Fire were able to push the lead out to 20 points again in the middle of the 4th quarter, which led Coach Sydney Johnson to empty the bench to concede this one.
If you had to summarize this game, it came down to turnovers (19 total) and horrible shooting (29.2 percent from the field and 2 for 21 from 3 point range). Those two aspects did the Mystics in this one.
Mystics drop to 12-11 on the season. Washington will now pack up and head out west to visit the Golden State Valkyries for back to back games, starting on Saturday.
