It’s Conference Championship Saturday around College Football, and it’s been a while since the Tigers have had to think about playing a game on this day. It’s December 6th 2025, and it’s been exactly 11 years since the Tigers last trip to the SEC Championship game. It was 12-06-2025, you can re-live the Live Thread here if you’re an old timer like myself, and Mizzou wasn’t close to Alabama that year. In fact they haven’t been close in any of the Championship games of the last 20 years.
Not to relive
bad memories but the 2014 Championship game was a stomping, but predictable. Missouri overachieved and were dominated by a better Georgia team that year. However, the Bulldogs lost to South Carolina and Florida that year which elevated Mizzou to the Championship game. The year before they were better equipped, and were only down 3 in the 4th quarter before losing to Auburn by 17. I don’t want to talk about the Big 12 Championship games and Oklahoma.
This Championship Saturday could mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Specifically if Duke and upend Virginia and cause all kinds of havoc in the College Football playoff ranking.
The group of five winners last nigh were Tulane over North Texas in the American Conference, and James Madison over Troy. Tulane and James Madison both have a shot to make the playoff.
If you’re like me and really more interested in College Hoops, can I interest you in six top 25 matchups?
- 10. Iowa State at 1. Purdue
- 4. Duke at 7. Michigan State
- 6. Louisville at 22. Indiana
- 14. Illinois at 13. Tennessee
- 20. Auburn at 2. Arizona
It’s as good of a December Saturday slate as you could ask for. Iowa State-Purdue and Duke-Michigan State tip things off at 11 am on CBS and Fox respectively. Either way, hoops or pigskin, you have a good Saturday ahead of you.
