Enzo Fernández is back from his post-World Cup holidays and back in training with Chelsea this week. Also back are the rumors linking him with a potential exit, though the Real Madrid angle from earlier this summer has now been replaced by a lot of Manchester City chatter.
City are of course now managed by Enzo Maresca, who departed Chelsea halfway through last season under rather acrimonious circumstances, which were eventually settled through lawyers last month. So obviously, there’s no love lost
between the two clubs at the moment, which is evidenced by our apparent strong stance around any potential Enzo shenanigans.
According to The Athletic, and many others, Chelsea have set 5pm British Summer Time on Friday, August 14, 2026 — so, like, in less than two days — as the deadline for City, or any other team, to send an offer that would meet our valuation, which remains at an impressive £120m. And not a minute late and not a penny less!
The report adds that this stance, now public, had earlier already been communicated to City and Enzo himself as well. So we should all be on the same page, and can avoid any funny business. Or at least that’s the theory. Should no acceptable bid be received by the deadline, then Enzo definitely “will not be leaving the club”. Again, that’s a good theory. We’ll see if it plays out in such a straightforward manner if (when?) push comes to shove.
I guess we better start the countdown clock.
