Maryland football’s backfield was the conference’s worst in 2025 — ranking last with 1,252 rushing yards and only 305 rush attempts. The Terps spent the offseason adding weapons to relieve some pressure off quarterback Malik Washington.
After bringing in USC running back Harry Dalton III in February, Maryland furthered its rushing depth on Thursday. Senior running back Terrez Worthy committed to the Terps.
Worthy, a two-time NJCAA All-American, produced a JUCO-leading 1,492 rushing yards across his final season at Lackawanna College. The Salisbury, Maryland native immediately became the top option in Temple’s rush attack after transferring.
Worthy was a versatile threat out of the backfield with the Owls. He totaled 480 rushing and receiving yards in 2024 with 16 receptions before stepping away from the team last season due to personal reasons.
The 5-foot-11 senior also showcased his electric pace in his limited role as the team’s kick return specialist — a position he could play sparingly with the Terps. Worthy averaged a blistering 39.1 yards in his 23 return attempts.
With DeJuan Williams largely expected to spearhead Maryland’s deep running back position group, Worthy is likely fighting for reps with Dalton and Iverson Howard. But that battle will be a promising sight if the Terps hope to improve their rush attack.
