Bayern Munich is reportedly gearing up to make one of its first bids for next summer’s transfer class: Crystal Palace center-back Marc Guéhi.
The report comes from Sky Germany journalists Florian Plettenberg
and Patrick Berger. As captured by @iMiaSanMia:
Max Eberl is planning direct contact with Marc Guéhi in January. There’s already been a meeting with Guéhi’s agent in Munich. Bayern’s priority is to extend Dayot Upamecano’s contract, nevertheless the Englishman remains a topic for the club. Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid are also after Guéhi [@Plettigoal, @berger_pj]
Guéhi, 25, has a contract that is up next June, so January is the time when other clubs can freely begin negotiating with him.
The Palace mainstay was a close miss for Liverpool at the end of last summer’s transfer window. At Bayern, he would find considerably more competition than he currently has — the top two spots are occupied by Dayot Upamecano, the French star the Bavarians are working hard to extend, and Jonathan Tah, the German national team starter who has only just arrived. And there’s still Kim Min-jae…for now.
Guéhi would offer insurance in case the Upamecano extension does not work out. Reportedly the Bavarians would only accommodate one of Upamecano or Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck, though. Is Guéhi in the same boat and only being sounded out in January? If so, would he wait around until Upamecano’s situation resolves?
