Before the Chiefs held their first full squad training camp practice at Missouri Western State University, team president Mark Donovan addressed the media. Predictably, the bulk of Donovan’s time was spent on the Chiefs’ new stadium set to open in 2031 in Kansas. Donovan anticipates the design of the domed field will be conducive to maintaining a natural grass field.
The Chiefs also have eyes on hosting a Super Bowl and other high profile sporting events, such as the NCAA basketball tournament’s Final
Four.
A separate training facility in Olathe will potentially be the site of future training camps, but the Chiefs are committed to St. Joseph for at least five more seasons.

The Chiefs are also working with the NFL to bring a Super Bowl to Kansas City. Donovan said the franchise is discussing the possibility of hosting the league’s championship game in 2033, 2034 or 2035.
The Chiefs president said he told Visit KC and Kansas City Sports Commission President and CEO Kathy Nelson that they’re going to be very aggressive in bidding on major events.
“We’re probably going to be early bidders on most things,” Donovan said during the news conference.

On Wednesday, Donovan said the team’s new facilities in Olathe, which are slated to open ahead of the 2031 NFL regular season, will be designed with the ability to host future training camps.
“With the training facility being built in Olathe, we as an organization have to look at everything we do with options,” Donovan said. “That training facility is going to be designed with the ability to host a training camp. We have to have that option.”
Donovan said the club would review their training camp options starting around 2029-2030, with the decision based on a variety of factors, some as simple as whether the team’s head coach wants to hold training camp away from the normal facility.

3. Rookie quarterback Garrett Nussmeier recorded a pair of impressive throws.
Nussmeier, a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, made one of the plays of the day during an 11-on-11 segment when he rolled to his left and fired a rocket on the run toward tight end Jake Briningstool, who hauled in a toe-tap grab near the sideline.
It was a great all-around play by Nussmeier, who later tallied a no-look completion to tight end Tre Watson over the middle during 7-on-7 drills.

The brace will be an adjustment
Mahomes said Friday that he felt comfortable playing with a knee brace after using one during part of his college career at Texas Tech.
This much became clear in two practices, though: He still will need time to get used to this particular support around his left knee.
While recording videos of Mahomes, I was struck by how many times he reached over to adjust the bulky brace. Sometimes, it would be a quick adjustment. Other times, he’d mess with multiple straps, pulling and tugging until he got them into a better position.

DRAFTED: Round 1, No. 6 overall
After both of the Chiefs’ starting cornerbacks joined the Rams — Trent McDuffie via trade, Jaylen Watson in free agency — Kansas City vaulted up the draft board for Delane. This prospect crop’s consensus CB1 was a true lockdown artist for LSU last season. According to PFF, he allowed just 165 yards over 11 games, posting a 31.3 passer rating against. (Reminder: Spiking the ball every play would produce a passer rating of 39.6.)

Star RBs Robinson, Gibbs appear to be hold-ins while seeking deals | ESPN
Neither Robinson nor Gibbs was participating Wednesday with the Atlanta Falcons or Detroit Lions, respectively, in the first training camp practice for both teams. Both players have had conversations with their teams this offseason about potential long-term contracts.
Both players are expected to reset the running back market with their deals. The Philadelphia Eagles’ Saquon Barkley is currently the NFL’s highest-paid running back, with his contract worth an annual average of $20.6 million.

Tests are ongoing, but it’s likely the 2023 first-rounder will be ruled out for the season, Rapoport noted.
Saints head coach Kellen Moore told WWL Radio that Bresee appeared to suffer a non-contact injury during one of the early team periods. Moore couldn’t confirm the exact injury, but said “it doesn’t look great.”
The No. 29 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Bresee hasn’t lived up to the lofty draft status, but has flashed some improvement the past two years. The 24-year-old was poised to play a key role along Brandon Staley’s defensive line.
49ers WR Ricky Pearsall dealing with knee swelling; the team has ‘some concern’ | Yahoo Sports
On Wednesday, it was reported that wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is dealing with knee swelling stemming from the PCL injury he suffered during the 2025 season.
San Francisco is reportedly exploring “all options” and that there is “some concern” around the injury.
The Pearsall news comes on the heels of fellow wideout Christian Kirk being diagnosed with a calf injury. The 49ers’ wide receiver corps is already dealing with injuries, a theme that lasted throughout their 2025 campaign.

Chiefs’ Andy Reid gives update on Mia Bieniemy: ‘She’s doing better’
After the first practice, head coach Andy Reid made sure to update local media on Mia’s condition.
“She’s doing better, great from where she was,” Reid told reporters after Wednesday’s practice. “Out of the ICU unit and making progress. We’re happy about that.”
“EB’s still with her, and that part is important that that’s taking place,” Reid emphasized.
