Marcus Rashford’s future appears to have taken a fresh twist amid claims his buy option at Barcelona expired at the end of March.
According to Cadena SER, the €30 million purchase option in his loan deal from Manchester United ran out at the end of March and is no longer valid.
Barcelona had been reluctant to pay the €30m to keep Rashford permanently, with previous reports claiming they were hoping to secure another loan – something Manchester United aren’t interested in right now.
The latest update
states that Barcelona will now have to start afresh when it comes to negotiations with Manchester United, particularly if they do decide to sign the forward on a permanent deal.
Rashford still wants to stay but his future is now looking increasingly complicated. SER say that the forward’s continuity is no longer a priority for Barcelona and much may depend on other operations and how he performs in the final months of the season.
Indeed reporter Nil Sola has also posted on social media: “Today it’s more likely the no than the yes to the continuation [of Rashford].”
Of course Raphinha’s injury does open up the possibility of Rashford seeing more game time in the coming weeks, an opportunity it increasingly seems he simply can’t pass up if he is to stay at Camp Nou.
