Morning A’s fans!
Last night’s game didn’t take seven hours and it also produced a different end result as the Toronto Blue Jays knotted up the 2025 World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers in LA, guaranteeing
that this series will head back to Toronto whatever happens tonight in a critical Game 5.
Whoever wins tonight, the series isn’t over, not by any means. While one would assume that the team that wins Game 5 in a tied series would usually go on to win, that’s not always the case, and especially not in the World Series. Since 1985 when the later rounds expanded to a best-of-seven format, teams that take Game 5 in an even 2-2 series have finished off a championship just eight of the 15 times, just over 50%. Add in the fact that this series is heading back to Toronto, and now the pressure seems to be on the Dodgers more than the Jays.
Tonight’s game will see the Game 1 starters go at it for the second time this series. The Blue Jays will be relying on rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage, hoping that the moment isn’t too big for the 22-year-old who began the year in Single-A. He looked solid enough all things considered, tossing four innings of two-run ball against the potent Dodgers in that big Game 1 win for the Jays. The stakes are a bit higher this time around and he’ll be in enemy territory tonight but he’ll have the chance to pitch his team to one win away from their first World Series championship in over three decades. There will be nerves. Can he handle and control them will be the thing to watch tonight.
The reigning champion Dodgers on the other hand will be playing their final game at Dodgers Stadium this season and they’ll be sending out ace left-hander Blake Snell for the starting assignment. His first outing in this World Series was an absolute disaster. Coming off a string of impressive October starts the Jays waited and bided their time but were eventually able to not only get to Snell for a pair of runs on a two-run homer, but eventually chase him from the game in the sixth en route to putting up a 9-spot in the frame. That’s not what the Dodgers were hoping for or expecting but they’ll be hoping being back at home can help Snell right the ship.
Jays going for their first ring in decades, Dodgers first in one year. Game 5’s are always epic, especially when the series is tied. First pitch is at 5:05 P.M. everyone. Until then, have a great hump day everyone!
