Heading into this offseason, there was some light speculation when it came to whether or not the Atlanta Braves would change up their coaching staff a bit. In his press conference following Atlanta’s elimination from the Postseason, it didn’t seem like Alex Anthopoulos had any plans of shaking things up with the coaching staff — though there was always the possibility of that being “GM speak.”
Sure enough, it ended up being for real. Jesús Cano of The Athletic is reporting that the Braves are indeed
bringing back the entire coaching staff for the 2027 season.
Here’s the relevant part about Tim Hyers, where it was actually confirmed that Hyers had signed a two-year deal to be the hitting coach for the Braves. It’s now confirmed that he’ll be back for a third season.
The most significant holdover is hitting coach Tim Hyers, who joined the Braves on a two-year contract before the 2025 season and shepherded a group that scored the eighth-most runs in MLB in 2026. Hyers, who was formerly on the Texas Rangers’ coaching staff that won the 2023 World Series, will continue working alongside assistant hitting coach Darnell Coles.
Overall, it’s clear that the Braves as an organization really do value continuity — they went with an internal managerial hire ahead of the 2026 season and now they’re keeping the same coaching staff together for the next season. It’s also clear that they think that this coaching staff still has a lot to offer moving forward.
I’d imagine that we’re going to hear zero complaints about Jeremy Hefner returning as pitching coach and it’ll also be interesting to see how first base coach Antoan Richardson and third base coach Tommy Watkins continue to go about figuring out ways to improve the running game alongside Walt Weiss. Tim Hyers will certainly be the one with the microscope focused on him, as the offense still has yet to even come close to returning to the lofty heights that they reached back when Kevin Seitzer was the hitting coach.
Either way, everybody’s got something to prove and hopefully it’ll lead to some improvements across the board. We’ll see what happens going forward.
